Proof of Funding Requirements
Prospective F-1 students must have the financial resources to live and study in the United States. This includes being able to cover the cost of tuition, books, living expenses and travel. Carl Sandburg College must collect evidence of the student’s financial ability before issuing a Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.”
Additionally, prospective students must bring their evidence of financial ability when applying for their student visa with the U.S. Department of State. It is also advised to have the evidence on-hand when entering the country at a U.S. port of entry, in the event a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer asks to review it.

These figures are estimates only and may increase between the time of admission and your first term of study. These expenses may also increase each year of your program. All tuition and fee rates are subject to change without notice. Due to rising costs, financial planning should allow for a 5 to 10 percent annual increase in living expenses and/or tuition..
Supporting Financial Documents
You are required to submit valid supporting financial documents certifying that you have sufficient funds available to cover expenses for your first year at Carl Sandburg College.
Bank statements must meet the following criteria:
- Indicate the financial institution's name.
- Indicate the account holder's name.
- Clearly show the account balance.
- Be dated within 90 days from the date of submission (older statements will not be accepted).
- Clearly show the type of currency.
- Be issued directly by a financial institution or agency verifying access to the funds.
- DO NOT submit long statements that include transaction history longer than 90 days
- Documents older than 90 days
- Annual salary statement, pay stubs, credit card statements.
- Real estate, investments, stocks, retirement plans, insurance policies, or other accounts which money cannot be withdrawn.
- Statements from a Business Account.
- Statement that are too long
Copies, scans, or faxes will be accepted for admissions purposes only. Please be aware that the Embassy or Consulate will require original financial information, which matches the information on the I-20 during the visa appointment. Submitting inadequate or falsified information will jeopardize the issuance of the student visa.
